Why I Changed the Site
September 3, 2026
For a few years this was just a photography site. Four pages, a couple of galleries, a contact form. That worked fine when I was shooting weddings and family sessions, but I'm not really doing that anymore.
I sold the camera gear and picked up a Fuji X100F instead. It's small enough to actually fit in a pocket, so I can take it on a ride or just carry it around with me. That's kind of the point. When I started taking photos it was because my wife and I were out camping and backpacking and I wanted to remember it. Somewhere along the way it turned into a business, and I'd rather get back to the first thing.
So the galleries are still here. People, places, and things I thought were worth a picture.
The other reason for the change is that photography isn't the only thing I do, and everything else had nowhere to go.
A friend talked me into riding bikes after I moved to Kansas City, and I've been at it ever since. Right now I'm training toward Unbound. I tore my Achilles playing basketball a little over a year ago, so most of this year was surgery, a cast, and rehab. I finished that about three months ago. The plan is to line up at Unbound when I'm 40, then go try to qualify at the UCI gravel race in Arkansas the year after.
There's also a home lab in my basement that started as somewhere to keep photos and has gotten a little out of hand since. And a pile of Magic cards I mostly just look at.
None of that fit on a site with "Rothfusz Photography" across the top, so I made room for it. That's the whole change.
No idea how often I'll write here. Probably whenever something's worth writing about.
