Pond Textures — John Rothfusz

My daughter had a few soccer games this weekend, and for part of one of them I was walking around with my youngest since he needed to move around some. We ended up down by the pond next to the fields, and I started noticing how many different textures were packed into one small spot: bark, vines, moss, cypress knees. Took a few photos while we walked.

This one's bark and vines on a tree trunk right at the edge of the water. The vines had grown up and over the bark enough that it's hard to tell where one stops and the other starts.

These are bald cypress knees sticking up out of the ground right next to the pond. Got down low to shoot this one, which is why the pond behind them is so out of focus.

And this is the moss growing right on the surface of the pond itself, with a few leaves and some kind of little water plant poking up through it. Shot straight down from the bank.

These were all shot on my new Fuji X100F, using one of its film simulations straight out of camera, no editing. It's been a good way to get back into shooting the way I did with my old film camera, which I've missed. It's small enough to fit in my pocket, so now I actually bring it everywhere.
